The good museum days with wine tasting sell their time slots weeks ahead. Below: the 15 to book early, what each includes and how they differ.
At Cálem Cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia, you’ll spend about 15 minutes with interactive exhibits, join a 30-minute guided cellar tour in English, Portuguese, French, or Spanish, then taste Cálem Fine White and Special Reserve Tawny Port.

At Porto’s WOW Wine Experience, follow wine from grape roots through fermentation, bottling, and tasting. Interactive displays explain Portugal’s wine regions, including the Douro, Madeira, and the Azores. Finish with three guided tastings, with English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, and Korean audio guides available.

Visit Bordeaux’s small Wine and Trade Museum in the former cellar of an 18th-century merchant. Follow a self-guided display on wine, cooperage, and Bordeaux commerce, then taste two wines with staff, often including clear explanations of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and merchant versus château wine.

Follow Picasso’s early Barcelona story with a guide such as Eoghan, Perrine, Daria, or Zeynep, stopping at Els 4 Gats, Sala Pares, Carrer d’Avinyó, and La Llotja. Admission to the Picasso Museum is included, while a private Vila Viniteca tasting of wine, cheese, and cured meats is optional.

Spend two hours at Casa del Vino, a 17th-century wine estate with a museum, traditional press house, gardens, and views toward Mount Teide and the sea. Taste three Tenerife wines with cheese, toast, almogrote, and honey, or upgrade for more local foods and Malvasia dessert wine.

At Koutsogiannopoulos Wine Museum near Vothonas, explore a 300-meter cave eight meters underground with an audio guide, then taste four local wines with a sommelier. Allow 1 to 2 hours. The cool cellars, family story, and unusual orange and dessert wines make this a useful Santorini stop.

At Pressoria in Aÿ-Champagne, you follow Champagne from vineyard soil through pressing, fermentation, aging, and bottling. The self-guided museum uses technology, sound, sight, and taste to make the process clear for adults and children. Finish with two Champagne tastings overlooking the vines.

At Bodega San Juan, a five-generation family winery, you’ll walk through organic vineyards, a 100-year-old stone lagar, the island’s only wine museum, and an old cellar. English-speaking guides such as Maria explain local grapes and volcanic soil before two wines are served with cheese, toast, and olives.

Visit Bordeaux’s Wine and Trade Museum at your own pace with a paper or audio guide, then learn about local grapes, AOC rules, terroir, and wine merchants before tasting two selected Bordeaux wines with chocolate-coated raisins and canelés.

Walk through Picasso’s Barcelona with a live guide, visiting Els Quatre Gats, Sala Parès, and Carrer d’Avinyó before entering the Picasso Museum independently. The optional upgrade adds Catalan cheeses, cured meats, tomato bread, and premium wines with a sommelier.

Tour Colmar’s Alsace Wine Museum at your own pace with a six-language audioguide, hands-on digital displays, grape and cellar exhibits, kids’ activities, and wine or fruit juice tastings. Learn about Alsace grape varieties, barrel-making, food pairings, appellations, and the people behind the region’s wine.

Spend 7.5 hours exploring Madeira in a small group of up to eight. Ride through Serra de Água and São Vicente, visit the sustainable Mel da Laurissilva honey museum, taste six table wines at Quinta do Barbusano, then sample aged Madeira wines at Henriques & Henriques after Cabo Girão. Guides may include Rui, Gill, Diogo, or Ruben.

As before it was a great excursion to do, I was even more happier when our driver showed up at the hotel, and it was the same driver Rui from last year. Obviously for us the highlight was the wine tasting. This time we didn't walk through the winery, but that suited us as we got into the tasting room and onto the wine. Who knows maybe even do it again next year.”
At Olio del Tempio in Sardinia, Francesco Locci guides you through a modern mill, the Sa Mola de Su Notariu oil museum, and a practical extra virgin olive oil lesson. Taste organic lemon oil, spicy herb oil, carasau bread, cured meats, olives, and sparkling wine.
