The good museum tours in Croatia sell their time slots weeks ahead. Below: the 15 to book early, what each includes and how they differ.

Enter Zagreb’s Museum of Broken Relationships with a $8 ticket and read around 100 anonymous stories from around the world. The small, wheelchair-accessible exhibition takes about 30 to 75 minutes, with captions in Croatian and English. Skip-the-line entry is available, though queues vary.

Spend a few hours or a full day at Zagreb’s Nikola Tesla Technical Museum. See Tesla’s inventions, watch high-voltage demonstrations, walk through an underground mine, and explore engines, aircraft, vehicles, farming, energy, and space displays. Free guided sessions run at set times.
“The museum was very interesting, especially the sections dedicated to Nikola Tesla and the technical innovations of the past century. I really enjoyed the variety of exhibits, from old vehicles and planes to the demonstrations that explain scientific principles in a fun and educational way. What could be improved is the overall organization and maintenance of the exhibits – some areas looked a bit outdated and could benefit from clearer explanations in English for international visitors. Visit Split’s Game of Thrones Museum for five themed rooms covering Meereen, King’s Landing, the North, Beyond the Wall, and the Three-Eyed Raven. Expect photos, weapons, costumes, dioramas, fog, music, scents, and an Iron Throne photo. Hosts speak English and Croatian.

Start at Stella Croatica for a guided olive museum tour, Mediterranean gardens, traditional tastings, and natural cosmetics. Then use your ticket at Klis Fortress, a Game of Thrones filming site with sweeping views over Split. You need your own transport between the two sites.
“Some fantastic views. A real feel for history and the strategic value of the fortress. Well worth a trip outside the city to see this. Just a shame they have not yet been able to restore the final parts of the fortress, but still plenty to see and experience.”
Visit Zagreb’s Museum of Illusions with a one-day entrance ticket. Explore more than 70 visual, sensory, and science-based exhibits, including a large hologram collection, an uphill water room, mirror maze, playroom, and Rotated Room. Captions are available in four languages.
“The museum is very creative ( a little repetitive, but it's ok). It's a great place to take pictures with friends. I missed a little bit of organization in terms of having a path to follow (what in some way is good, because you can spend the time you want, but on the other hand it's kind of messy when there are a lot of people and kids).”

Leave Split at 8:30 for Trogir, Stella Croatica’s Olive Museum, and Klis Fortress, with scenic drives past Salona and Žnjan Beach. Guides such as Miron, Duje, and Darko add lively history, while a 10-language audio system helps on the bus. Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and sturdy shoes.

At Dubrovnik’s Red History Museum, you explore Croatia’s communist past inside the former T.U.P. factory complex. See a Yugo 45, reconstructed home interiors, political displays, Goli Otok material, period music, and communist-era versions of Coca Cola and Fanta. Visit Stella Croatica near Klis for a guided look at Dalmatian food production, natural cosmetics, a 500-species botanical garden, and the Olive Oil Museum. You’ll taste traditional sweets, test natural cosmetics, and learn to identify extra virgin olive oil by scent and flavor before sampling two oils.
“We visited the museum as a family with our nine-year-old daughter. Everything was explained very clearly. Afterwards, we took part in a workshop where the different qualities were explained and we were also allowed to taste them. Just like a sommelier, we "sniffed" and "tasted" the difference between good and bad olive oil. It was also very interesting for our daughter. At Zagreb’s Museum of Hangovers on Vlaška 55, you’ll explore alcohol’s morning-after effects through stories, art, global cures, and games such as drunk walking and drunk driving. Your ticket includes a local shot and a flashlight for the blackout room. Beer, wine, and rakia cost extra.
“We enjoyed out visit - we spent around an hour in the museum but it could have been much quicker depending on what you read and participate in. The free shot at the end of the visit was welcome :-) The museum was fun.”
At the House of Istrian Olive Oil in central Pula, you’ll watch films on Roman and modern production, then taste five Istrian extra virgin oils beside a supermarket example. An English or German-led tasting also includes a sweet dessert pairing and time in the shop.
